Chong (Choo) Xiong was born in 1956. Her parents were Wa Xeng Xiong and Ka Yang. Wa Xeng was one of the sons of grandfather Joua Kao Xiong.
When Chong’s father was killed during the Vietnam war in 1964 and her mom got remarried, she was adopted by her uncle Xai Soua Xiong and his family. She lived with her adopted family from that very young age until she married Gia Tou Her in 1981. She and Gia Tou had four children together, two sons and two daughters. Her sons are Yee Ger and Cheng and her daughters are Pa Shoua and Ying.
Our sister Chong was a kind, quiet and generous person. She was not always the strongest person physically and emotionally. However, for what she lacked in strength, she compensated with her passion for life and always treating others with respect and kindness. Growing up with her adopted family, she had a home and family she could call as her own. She was loved and cared for. She was always obedient and willing to lend a hand to help out with daily chores at home and at the farm.
About ten years ago, She and Gia Tou were divorced and she lived by herself since all of her children had grown up and gone to school. Her mother later joined her and they shared the same place for quite some time until she gotten ill.
She had a strange illness that was constantly draining her energy to the point where she was no longer able to walk. All the exams and laboratory tests couldn’t diagnose her condition. In 2015, she suffered from a stroke and was unable to speak and/or move and had to be taken care by professional services.
Sadly, on May 15, 2016, she passed away quietly at the nursing home. A wonderful memorial service was held for her. She was lay to rest in a little town named Lodi in Wisconsin (remember to visit her when you pass by).
